I like grits ... and other nonsense

• Unbeknownst to me until I moved to the Dirty South, I like grits, especially cheese grits or shrimp and grits. I also like all the pimp shit, so everybody let me hear you say, yay-er.

• My friend won nine — count 'em, nine! — awards for ad design in the Kansas Press Association awards. Way to go Beezekiel. If anyone needs a graphic designer in any capacity, hollaback.

• If you go to Golden Corral — and I would only recommend going for the breakfast buffet (they have good cheese grits) — please let the woman at the end of the counter carry your tray for you. She gets pissed when you tell her, "I think I can handle it myself." Sorry, lady, I don't know protocol at white-trash, buffet restaurants.

• Tropical Storm Tammy is a bitch. She's dumping some serious rain on us.

• Don't post your thoughts on oral sex on your personal blog. If you don't know what I'm talking about, just trust me. It's not a good idea.

• Going to see Ben Folds in Savannah on Saturday night! He better play "Bitches Ain't Shit," else I'll have to do some motherfuckin' chin checkin'.

Yay for Ben Folds playing at SCAD. I was going to go to that show, but my brother and his wife thought they would be out of town, and I'll be working anyway. I have seen Ben Folds live four times, so it's not like I'll feel deprived if I don't see him. But then that means I know what I'll be missing. Last time I saw him, he opened with "Careless Whisper." And also played "The Way It Is" or whatever the Bruce Hornsby song is. AND Liz Phair's "Chopsticks."

I think you were working at Slackers the day I bought "Ben Folds Live." Or maybe it was Paul and he was making fun of me.

I haven't 100 percent embraced the new album yet, but I'm working on it.

He better play "Bitches Ain't Shit" and The Cure's "In Between Days," which he released on an EP. Other covers I have always thought Ben should play:
*"Paint It Black," The Rolling Stones
*That Phil Collins/Genesis song where he says "There must be some misuuuuuuunderstaaaaaaanding"
*"Humpty Dance," Digital Underground

Yeah, "In Between Days" is an awesome cover, too, as is The Darkness' "Get Your Hands Off of My Woman."

I've only seen him live once, at Jesse Hall, when he was still in Ben Folds Five, on the Reinhold Messner tour. It was fuckin' awesome. Can't wait for Saturday.

The new album is good, but not as lively as a lot of the other stuff. There's some pretty poignant shit on there, though.

Dude, I can't tell you how many people gave me hell for liking grits when I was at Missouri. And the best part: they're damn cheap, too.

Shit, yeah, they are. Instant grits are like $1.66 for a package of 20! Make up some cheddar cheese grits and a couple pieces of toast, you've got a damn fine breakfast.
